Participation of HCAA in the ICAO first Advanced Air Mobility (AAM 2024) Symposium/ Montreal/ 9-12 September 2024

The HCAA Governor, Dr. Christos Tsitouras attended the ICAO first Advanced Air Mobility (AAM 2024) Symposium, hosted by ICAO from 9 to 12 September 2024, in Montréal, Canada.

The theme was "Advanced air mobility (AAM) global harmonization and interoperability: Challenges and opportunities" and indicated ICAO's ongoing commitment to foster collaboration, innovation, and the future of air transportation. The conference was attended by the President of the ICAO Council, Mr. Salvatore Sciacchitano, and the Secretary General of ICAO, Mr. Juan Carlos Salazar, as well as influential figures in the global aviation space.

The HCAA Governor had bilateral meetings with both ICAO leaders. Mr. Sciacchitano and Mr. Salazar, for their part, congratulated the HCAA for its rapid development and for its achievements so far and jointly planned next steps for the future with a common goal of developing and promoting safety in civil aviation. The Permanent Representative of Greece to ICAO, Ambassador Mrs. Maria Sarantis, also participated in the symposium.

The symposium was built upon the developments of DRONE ENABLE with attention given to concepts for AAM, electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, vertiports, automation, trust framework and airspace integration. Several dimensions to these new mobility concepts and infrastructure were considered.

AAM 2024 brought together key stakeholders from industry, academia, government and international organizations in advanced air mobility, as well as unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), sectors to exchange research, best practices, lessons learned and respective challenges. Attention was given to ongoing ICAO activities related to AAM, including UAS, which need to be addressed collectively in order to facilitate their integration into the global aviation system.

 AAM 2024 provided networking and bilateral opportunities, showcase the breadth of existing technologies, ongoing research and development, as well as commercial and non-commercial activities in this rapidly evolving sector of the aviation industry.
