Aerodrome Certification

Aerodromes that:

  •    Are open to the public use
  •    Serve commercial air transport and
  •   Have a paved instrument runway of at 800 metres or more ; or exclusively serve helicopters using instrument approach procedures / departure procedures for landing and take-off,

fall within EASA’s scope i.e., the Regulation (EU) 2018/1139 and the annexed relevant essential requirements apply to the design maintenance and operation of such aerodromes.

A certificate is required for all aerodromes in the EASA scope and the aerodrome operators. An aerodrome certificate is issued by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority upon verification of compliance to certain certification specifications and requirements regarding organization and operations. The certificate remains valid as long as these requirements are satisfied.

In aerodromes that are not in the scope of Regulation (EU) 2018/1139, the requirements of national aerodrome licensing and certification regulations apply.
