DESCRIPTION
This SIAN is issued following EASA SIB 2018-12R1 issued on 04 April 2021.
Due to the commencement of the winter season and in the context of addressing the critical issue of aircraft anti-icing/de-icing procedures—as handled by flight crews and ground handling personnel—compliance with requirement CAT.OP.MPA.250 of EU Regulation 965/2012, as well as the relevant guidance material, is hereby reminded.
The attached EASA SIB (Safety Information Bulletin) contains recommendations for aircraft operators.
Additional material regarding all aspects of winter aircraft operations is available for review in an Airbus training document posted on the Skybrary website, as well as in an educational video titled: 'Everything you NEED TO KNOW for your WINTER OPERATIONS 2025'.
The objective of the resources is to provide aircraft operators with a comprehensive understanding of cold weather operations and to examine:
- How various aircraft components are affected by contaminants due to cold weather conditions (ice/snow);
- The de-icing/anti-icing process and essential information for flight crews regarding the de-icing/anti-icing fluids utilized;
- The impact on aircraft performance when operating on runways with contaminants such as snow, ice, slush, etc.;
- Limitations related to fuel freezing; and
- How the implementation of altimeter corrections is necessitated by low temperatures.
