The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Christos Dimas, accompanied by the Governor of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA), Mr. Christos Tsitouras, the Secretary General for Transport, Mr. Stelios Sakaretsios, and the leadership of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Service (HASP), held a series of institutional meetings in Brussels focusing on sector reform and the modernisation of Greece’s air navigation systems.
In this context, the delegation visited EUROCONTROL headquarters and met with the organisation’s Director General, Mr Raúl Medina. During the meeting, there was a substantive exchange of views on the role of Greek airspace within the pan-European network, particularly in light of increased summer traffic peaks driven by tourism. The critical importance of safe, efficient and resilient operation of Greece’s air navigation system for overall European network performance was underscored.
A central topic of the discussions was the country’s ambitious programme to modernize Air Traffic Management (ATM) infrastructure, as well as EUROCONTROL’s contribution to its successful implementation. In this context, it was agreed to conclude a Support to State Agreement, which will provide a structured framework for technical and operational support to the HCAA and the HASP for the delivery of a complex project with a broader—and cross-border—dimension.
The EUROCONTROL visit concluded with a tour of the Network Manager Operations Centre (NMOC), guided by the Director of Network Management, Mr. Iacopo Prissinotti, and the Head of ATM Network Operations, Mr. Steven Moore, highlighting the importance of coordinated action among all operational partners to ensure an effective and resilient pan-European network.
The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority reiterates its firm commitment to institutional strengthening, the modernization of air navigation infrastructure and close cooperation with European institutions, with a view to ensuring a high level of safety, efficiency and sustainability in air transport.
