On Wednesday, September 18, the APA Governor, Dr. Christos Tsitouras, participated in the work of the 7th Infrastructure & Transport Conference, on the day dedicated to Transport. Mr. Tsitouras, as a member of the composition of the air transport panel, answered relevant questions from journalists and at the same time raised important issues related to the development of aviation in the Greek area.
The HCAA Governor referred to the need to establish an aviation academy, in collaboration with Greek and European universities. "If this effort is successful, it will upgrade both the Civil Aviation product and the Greek economy. From our side, we will be helpful in this effort, in cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, so that this vision can be realized, and with the contribution of the new Greek Commissioner for Transport and Tourism at the European Commission, Apostolos Tzitzikostas", said Mr. Tsitouras.
As he pointed out, Civil Aviation in Greece had lagged behind, as it was not characterized by the extroversion required by the industry, nor did it have the necessary participation in international forums.
Mr. Tsitouras referred to the necessity of upgrading the provision of ground services, through the immediate finding of human resources. As far as the actions of the HCAA are concerned, in the next period the emphasis is on strengthening the cooperation of all the involved bodies of the aviation industry, the political leadership, the airlines, the airports and the HASP.
Finally, he spoke about the phenomenon of hypertourism, pointing out that "it only exists locally and seasonally. It is easy to solve, through the concrete measures that the government is now taking. The next day requires improving the infrastructure so that we are ready to welcome a larger number of tourists," he concluded, citing as an example the investment program for the expansion of the Athens International Airport and Fraport's complementary projects at the regional airports.
