On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the HCAA Governor Dr. Christos Tsitouras and Dr. Kalliopi Galanopoulou (Chief Medical Assessor, Office of Aero Medicine and Medical Affairs) delivered one of the opening speeches for the 35th Conference of the EAAP (European Association of Aviation Psychology) which took place in Athens.

The theme of the conference was “Brains & Planes: Science Informing Practice, Practice Informing Science”.

Mr. Tsitouras welcomed the delegates and emphasized the historical importance of Greece in aviation from mythology to the modern period. Ms. Galanopoulou then presented statistics regarding the impact of psychological problems on flight safety in Greece as well as the actions of the AMS to promote good mental health among crews and Air Traffic Controllers. In closing, she emphasized the need for better industry support in this area.
