Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority actively participated at the International Conference on Sustainable Aviation Fuels, "Sustainable Aviation Fuels – Time for take-off", organized by the Center for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving (CRES), on November 7-8 under the auspices of Ministry of Environment and Energy.
HCAA Governor Dr. Christos Tsitouras in his presentation entitled: “Refueling Aviation in Greece HCAA Flightpath towards effective implementation of ReFuel EU Aviation”, informed the participants about HCAA responsibilities and actions for the implementation of the new Regulation ReFuelEU Aviation in Greece.
The Governor highlighted the pivotal role of aviation for the Greek economy, the challenges and the opportunities emerging from the decarbonization of the aviation sector, with Sustainable Aviation Fuels development of and especially the synthetic ones (e-fuels) produced by utilizing of Renewable Energy Sources.
He also noted HCAA’s commitment to ICAO Long term global aspirational goal (LTAG) for international aviation of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and outlined Aviation flightpath towards Sustainable Development in cooperation with all involved stakeholders.
In the Panel of discussions that followed at the end of the day, regarding “SAF Opportunities in Greece – What needs to be done”, the Head of HCAA Environmental Protection Regulation and Oversight Section, Dr. Georgia Lykou, as RefuelEU Aviation Focal Point, answered to participants' questions about the next steps that have be taken for the development of the SAF market in Greece.
