On Friday, May 24, 2024, the President International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council, Mr. Salvatore Sciacchitano, visited the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, accepting a personal invitation from the HCAA Governor, Dr. Christos Tsitouras. The visit of this leading personality to our country is of particular importance as it seals the flawless cooperation of HCAA with ICAO, the highest Civil Aviation Organization in the world.
During the meeting, Greece's commitment to maintain and further improve the high performance and safety levels that the recent audit, which was carried out at HCAA last December in the framework of the USOAP (Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program), recorded for the country and the Greek aviation ecosystem.
The President of ICAO, accompanied by Mr. Tsitouras, had contacts with co-authors of the political leadership in the field of transport and the environment: The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Christos Staikouras and the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Theodoros Skylakakis and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Alexandra Papadopoulou. The topic of the fruitful dialogue that developed with the three ministers concerned the current challenges of civil aviation, regarding the dynamic development of air transport, the assurance of safety, the multifaceted protection of the environment and the full harmonization of our country with the modern high European and international standards in all fields of aviation.
The HCAA Governor took Mr. Sciacchitano on a tour of the Authority's offices, as well as the examination center, and he in turn expressed his full satisfaction with the level of facilities and the perfection of the infrastructure. The visit of the President of the ICAO Council to the Civil Aviation Authority is valued extremely positively, as it proved to be particularly efficient, developed in a warm and friendly atmosphere and, moreover, acted as a lever to highlight Greece's targeted actions for progress in air transport and the achievement of excellence in the international aviation space .
