The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) informs passengers and air carriers that, as of 10 April 2026, the Entry/Exit System (EES) will be fully implemented at all air border crossing points of the Hellenic Republic, in accordance with European Union legislation.
The EES is an automated information system designed to register the entry and exit of third-country nationals travelling for a short stay to the Schengen Area. The system will record biographical and biometric data, including facial image and fingerprints, replacing the manual stamping of passports.
Important information for passengers
- Passengers who are third-country nationals subject to the EES are advised to arrive at airports well in advance of their scheduled departure or arrival during the initial implementation period.
- First-time registration in the EES may require additional processing time.
- Passengers are reminded to ensure that their travel documents are valid and comply with entry requirements.
- Air carriers are required to adapt operational procedures and ensure that passengers are duly informed of the EES requirements.
- Close cooperation with airport authorities and border control authorities is essential to ensure a smooth and efficient transition.
The HCAA, in cooperation with all competent national and European authorities, remains committed to ensuring a high level of security while facilitating efficient air transport operations and minimizing inconvenience to passengers.
