On Friday, October 4, 2024, the online Refresher Course for aviation medics was held by the Office of Aero Medicine and Medical Affairs. For the first time, the seven-hour online training was also available to doctors from other Balkan countries that either belong to or collaborate with EASA.

The seminar was attended by doctors belonging to the respective Authorities of Greece, Cyprus, Georgia, Serbia, Croatia, Romania, Slovenia and Bulgaria and there was a total of 48 participants.

The presentation of the conference was made by the General Director of Economic Oversight and Administrative Support Ms. Kalliopi Lykou.

Speakers were: Kourtidou Chrysoula (Director of AMeC Thessaloniki), Savourdos Petros (AME AMeC Athens), Odysseas Papaefthymiou (AME and SME ICAO), Kalliopi Galanopoulou (Head of AMS) and Dimitrios Dobris (Doctor AMS).

Topics discussed included drugs and alcohol in aviation, the aging pilot, sleep apnea, and common causes of acute medical events in flight. They were issues that have arisen from recent events in aviation medicine and recent changes in EASA regulations.
