41st Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Montreal, 27 September - 7 October 2022

Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority participated for the first time in the 41st Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). HCAA was represented by the Governor, Mr. Christos Tsitouras, the General Director of Aviation Activities, Mr. Konstantinos Karageorgis, the General Director of Economic Oversight & Administrative Support, Ms. Pepi Lykou and the Director of Aviation Security and Environment Protection, Ms. Iro Sakki. At the same time, specialized staff of the Authority actively participated in the Assembly with an online presence, effectively contributing with their high expertise and experience to the progress of the work.

ICAO's 193 Member States and a large number of international organizations participated in the Assembly, which establishes the Organization's global policy for the coming three years.

During the sessions of the Assembly, the full work program of ICAO in the field of technical, economic, legal and technical cooperation was considered in detail. Subsequently, the results of the meeting will be given to the other ICAO bodies and its Member States to guide their ongoing and future work as set out in Article 49 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation.

On the sidelines of the work, HCAA held meetings with other European Authorities as well as with delegations from all over the world.

During the Assembly and through an electronic voting system in the six official languages ​​of ICAO (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish) the election of Member States to the ICAO Council took place. The election of Member States for Parts I and II took place during the plenary session of Saturday 1 October 2022, while the election of Member States for Part III took place during the plenary session of Tuesday 4 October 2022.

The 36-member Council is the governing body of the Organization and is elected for a three-year term.

The electoral process was divided into three parts, with the following states being elected:

PART I — States of great importance to air transport

Australia*, Brazil*, Canada*, China*, France*, Germany*, Italy*, Japan*, United Kingdom* and United States*.

Part II — States contributing most to the provision of facilities for international civil aviation

Argentina*, Austria, Egypt*, Iceland, India*, Mexico*, Nigeria*, Saudi Arabia*, Singapore*, South Africa*, Spain* and Venezuela

 Part III — States ensuring geographical representation

Bolivia, Chile, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea*, Ethiopia, Ghana, Jamaica, Malaysia*, Mauritania, Qatar, Republic of Korea*, Romania, United Arab Emirates* and Zimbabwe.
