George Kasimatis

George Kasimatis joined the new Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority in December 2021 and was appointed Head of the newly established Section of “Safety and Occurrence Management” in February 2022. The main goal of the Section is to implement and maintain the Hellenic Aviation Safety Programme in order for Greece to preserve the high level of aviation safety.

He worked for 27 years in the old Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, first as employee (1995 - 2010) and then as Head of various Sections (2011-2021), gaining significant experience in areas such as: Airport Operations, Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting, Emergency Plan, Certification and Airport Oversight, Aviation Security Oversight, Occurrence Reporting and Aviation Safety Analysis, Implementation of Aviation Environmental Regulations.

He has extensive experience in issuance of regulations, procedures and technical requirements. He is also Safety and Security Aviation Trainer and active EASA Airport Inspector.

He holds a BSc degree in Physics from University of Athens as well as two postgraduate MSc degrees in "Optoelectronics and Laser Devices" from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh and "Radio Communications and Electronics" from University of Athens.
