Before conducting any drone flight in Greece, it is mandatory to check airspace restrictions through the DAGR (Drone Aware Greece) platform.

1. Checking Your Flight Area via DAGR
The DAGR (Drone Aware Greece) system is the Hellenic Aviation Service Provider (HASP) airspace platform in Greece, where drone operators can:
- Identify areas where flights are allowed without prior approval.
- Determine if their flight zone falls within a yellow or magenta area, which may have restrictions or prohibitions.
- Receive updates on temporary flight restrictions and special conditions.
In DAGR, airspace is categorized as follows:
🔹 Yellow & Magenta Zones (e.g Airports, Archaeological Sites): Depending on the UAS activity, flights in these areas may either be permitted under specific conditions or entirely prohibited. Prior approval is required in most cases.
✅ Outside these zones: Flights are allowed without special approval as long as Open Category regulations under EASA are followed.
⚠️ Operator / Remote Pilot Responsibility: The UAS Operator and Remote Pilot are responsible for complying with regulations and must not fly over critical infrastructure such as:
- Ports
- Hospitals
- Archaeological Sites
- Military or Government Installations
without obtaining prior authorization from the HCAA.
2. Requesting Authorization for Flights in Yellow & Magenta Zones
If your flight area is located within yellow or magenta zones, you must submit an authorization request to the HCAA before flying.
📌 Flights Near Airports:
For flights near civilian or military airports, requests are submitted to the competent UAS authority — the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) — which is responsible for the initial assessment of each request, ensuring the completeness of documentation and compliance with UAS operational requirements. Once verified, the requests are forwarded to the relevant authorities, such as the Hellenic Aviation Service Provider (HASP) and the Hellenic Air Force (HAF). These authorities evaluate matters related to air traffic management and the overall infrastructure involved before issuing the appropriate approvals or rejections, as required.
💡 Example:
If you intend to fly near Athens International Airport (LGAV), you must submit a request to the HCAA, which will forward it to the HASP for final approval.
📌 Important:
- If you are not registered as a UAS operator in another EASA member state, you must register in Greece before flying.
- If you are already registered in another EASA country, no additional registration is required.
