Συμμετοχή της ΑΠΑ στο Συνέδριο της ΕΑSA “MESAFE”

Participation of HCAA in the EASA Conference "MESAFE" / Cologne / April 23-26, 2024

On 23 and 24/4/2024 the HCAA Aeromedical Section attended the EASA conference on the new study being prepared on its behalf, called MESAFE. The study is conducted by psychologists specializing in the aviation sector and deals with the early identification of people with personality or history that make them at increased risk for incidents at work, which may prove dangerous to flight safety. The aim of this study is to provide specialized psychological criteria that are more relevant to the aviation environment, to provide relevant training to aeromedical examiners and inspectors and to provide guidelines for the psychological assessment of individuals in the aviation sector, so that they are identified high-risk people in the early stages, before a serious incident occurs and before psychopathology manifests that will deprive them of the ability to work. It is the first study of its kind and the final results are expected soon after practical tests. At the conference there was a wide discussion about peer support groups, a project for which the OPS sector of the HCAA has already organized a seminar with the participation of the Aeromedical Section.

Subsequently, on 26 and 26/4/2024, the HCAA Aeromedical Section participated in the ICAO CAPSCA meeting, during which the vigilance of the Civil Aviation Authorities in cooperation with the State Public Health Sectors to deal with crises involving infectious diseases was discussed, chemical and nuclear agents. It is common agreement that, as we are now going through the post-covid era, there is an absolute need to incorporate the lessons learned from the previous period and to proceed with transnational cooperation of all the agencies involved, so that there is the maximum possible cooperation in dealing with crises of international scope.

Finally, the Aeromedical Section doctor, Mrs. Kalliopi Galanopoulou, joined the committee of cardiology experts of ESAM (European Society of Aerospace Medicine).
