Δήλωση ΑΠΑ για την 80ή επέτειο της Σύμβασης του Σικάγο

On the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the signing of the ‘Chicago Convention’, on December 7th, 1944, Greece, being among the first 54 nations-signatories, is paying tribute to the vision, spirit of cooperation and leadership shown by the international community at that pivotal moment.

Today, 193 nations have signed and ratified the Convention of Chicago & its Annexes, which includes more than 12.000 international Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).

Greece ratified the Chicago Convection in 1947 and has supported ICAO’s legacy and mission ever since. It is also worth noted that the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority has consistently demonstrated its dedication to working closely with ICAO across all strategic objectives and has actively engaged with ICAO hosting prominent global and regional events and collaborating to further enhance Greece's aviation capabilities.

The steady increase of Air Transport in Greece, both in number of flights and passengers, surpassing pre-pandemic numbers, is aligned with ICAO provisions and environmentally sustainable goals.

During our last three-year term on the Council, 2019-2022, Greece contributed constructively and spared no effort in promoting cooperation, while emphasizing the international obligation of all states to strictly adhere to International Law, for the benefit and safety of International Civil Aviation.

Dialogue, Democracy, Diplomacy are the means to overcome the contemporary global challenges, applied always by Greece in its continuous efforts to build on the elements that unite us.

These values are shared by ICAO and the entire UN system, in its 80 years course, safeguarding safety, security and sustainable development of civil aviation in the world.

Celebrating 80 years of the Chicago Convention, 80 years of ICAO, we celebrate 80 years of safe, stable, sustainable growth of international civil aviation.
